In my latest contribution to Thai inflight magazine Sawasdee, I penned a two-page piece on Melbourne’s arts scene.
The story covered Melbourne’s Arts Festival, the Arts Precinct (down the road from where I live) and walking tours in the city.
Azouri supplied several of the images accompanying the piece.

In my final issue of Passport for 2012, I commissioned stories from Oceania—Australasia, Micronesia, Polynesia and Melanesia.
The main features tackled the Caroline Islands, tropical northeast Queensland and the Big Island of Hawaii. I wrote a small feature on adventure travel on New Zealand’s North Island, in addition to my usual sections.
In 2013, I will continue my role as Editor of Passport, as well as providing subediting and writing services for Asian Geographic and The Read magazines.

Passport‘s theme this issue is Central Asia, and I commissioned features covering all of the countries in the region—the “Stans”.
As well as my usual sections, in this issue I wrote a major feature on Persian New Year—otherwise known as Nowruz—which is the major festival celebrated in Central Asia.
The other main features were on adventure travel in Central Asia and on the glorious nation of Borat—Kazakhstan.

Passport and Asian Geographic—as well as various other Asian Geographic magazines handled by THE FIFTH APE—can be read online at www.zinio.com.
Subscribers can read the magazines on iPad and Android tablets, and there’s also dedicated reader software for Mac or PC.
It’s an elegant electronic solution that actually works, but there’s always the paper version if you’re old school like me.
