Focusing on Western Asia, the new issue of Passport follows the format I established at the beginning of the year.
Among the stories I commissioned are a feature on the western and eastern extremes of Turkey, a feature on adventure sports in the United Arab Emirates, and a shorter piece on a camel beauty contest in the desert of Abu Dhabi.
I also wrote the guide section “The Big Picture” as well as a weekend getaway piece on the exotic Musandam Peninsula in Oman.

Hitting newsstands this week, the first issue of the year of Passport is redesigned with a fresh new look and bundled together with sister magazine Asian Geographic.
I commissioned several exciting stories for the issue, including the cover story featuring the Philippine festival images of upcoming photographer Manuel Librodo.
I also wrote a new section entitled “The Big Picture”, essentially a mini-guide to the various countries dealt with in the issue, in this case the 11 countries of Southeast Asia.

My photography section Shoot It! went to Israel, India and China to photograph religious themes.
As usual, I wrote the bulk of the photo-taking advice, including improving your travel portraits and making best use of perspective when shooting buildings.
Michael Lisman, a hobby photographer from St. Petersburg, contributed some wonderful portraits of old and young Orthodox Jews.

My first contribution to inflight magazine Sawasdee (page 20) is now in the hands of passengers travelling on Thai Airways.
The one pager is on modern and post-modern art in Sydney, with a focus on the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
